JRW, for those of you that don't know, is Junior Ring Weekend. It is essentially a weekend dedicated to juniors receiving their class rings, and its one of the biggest events at PC!
The weekend kicked off on Thursday -- we received rings and attended mass dedicated to our class. The class president and JRW Core members (the event planners and ring designers) spoke, as well as the president of the college, Father Shanley. It was a great mass, especially because it was all junior class members. A…

Last Friday, a group of us Admission Ambassadors participated in a really fun and unique charity event. A few PC students are raising money for a charity which donates baseball equipment to underprivileged children in the Dominican Republic. Instead of having a more traditional fundraiser, the students hosted a home run derby! It was $2 per person, and the turnout was incredible.
There were "teams" from many of the groups/organizations/clubs on campus, and we all came ready to compete! Everyone…

As a junior, I really need to be thinking about getting an internship. Career Services is just the place to get information about available internships and assistance with resumes and cover letters. That is why I have an appointment this Thursday that I am really excited about.
So far, I have what I hope is a good resume. I've also checked out one of our internship networks, called efriars. It is simple to join and it makes it easy to find local internships in the Rhode Island and Massachusetts…

Hello all!
I hope you all had a spooktacular Halloween and a great weekend! This past week was certainly filled with tons Halloween themed activities at PC. There were plenty of events all around campus to get everyone in the Halloween spirit. For example, the Board of Programmers (BOP) sponsored a ghost tour throughout all the haunted areas in the city of Providence. There was also a special movie night in McPhails where students were able to get their sugar fix by decorating cupcakes and watc…

Hi Everyone!
I'm Danielle, a Sophomore Political Science major and Economics minor from Manchester, Connecticut!
This past weekend was Halloween and I cannot even begin to describe how much fun it was here at PC! My friends and I all dressed up (I was Lucy from the Charlie Brown Peanut Series :)) and spent the evening dancing and listening to great music in McPhails (our on campus entertainment center). In McPhails, I ran into my fellow Connections Retreat leaders (Connections is an annual ret…

Yesterday and today were two gorgeous fall days! My roommate Lindsey and I took a much-needed study break yesterday afternoon and went to Lincoln Woods, a state park about 10 minutes away from PC. I went there a few weeks ago to survey trees for an Ecology lab and have been dying to go back. I sometimes forget that though I live in an urban area there are still beautiful "getaways" and settings nearby!
Lindsey and I just walked around, climbed some rocks, sat by the lake, etc.! We took some bea…

So midnight Madness was last weekend, but it was such a great time, that I have to talk about it now! Midnight Madness is a pep rally celebrating the start of basketball season. The basketball teams are introduced, there are contests, dance team/company dances, and, my personal favorite, the dance off between dance club, BOP (Board of Programmers), and BMSA (Balfour Multicultural Student Association). BMSA is always a show stopper and won again this year. Pictures can say it better than I can, s…

Hey Everyone!
Hope you all had a great weekend! After a long week of classes, my roommates and I enjoyed a much needed break from our studies by going to a Jay Z concert at the Dunkin Donuts Center in downtown Providence. For those of you who do attend PC, you'll become very well acquainted with the Dunk. This arena houses many different venues throughout the year. The concerts at the Dunk are tons of fun, but my personal favorite event would have to be the PC basketball games. Soon enough it'l…

I'm a pretty competitive person. Okay, I'm a
very competitive person. Like many of you may be, I was a varsity athlete in high school and I've been playing sports since I was old enough to walk. Being that I am not quite Division I college varsity material, I was a bit bummed to be ending my athletic "career" upon entering college. It was strange being in school without daily 3 hour volleyball practices, team dinners, etc. Little did I know about the world of PC intramural sports, but tru…

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven’t posted in a little while, but this past week has been very busy because it was midterms week. Luckily though, I can now breathe a sigh of relief with my exams behind me. Even though the week was filled with lots of work, the weekend definitely made up for it because Friday was Midnight Madness. For those of you who have never heard of it, Madness is pretty much a giant pep rally for the whole school! Everyone piles into the Alumni Hall gym to celebrate the start of…

Hello everyone! Hope you all are enjoying the beginning to your weekend!
It has been super chilly up here in Providence, almost like it is December! Actually, back at home in State College, it's been snowing for two days, which is absolutely crazy! The weather must have gotten it's month mixed up!
Tonight is the beginning of Basketball season and PC always celebrates with an event called Late-Night Madness! There have been activities all week leading up to tonight, which has gotten the whole sch…

Hi all. I'm Kelly from Staten Island, New York. I'm a senior at PC, and I'm an English major and a Theater minor.
I was on one of those natural highs all weekend. My friends and I stayed at PC for the long holiday weekend so we were all together. It's an exciting time; the leaves are changing colors in Providence! :) We drove forty minutes to Middletown, RI; it was a beautiful ride amongst the fall foliage of New England. Our reason for going to Middletown, near Newport, was to jump out of an a…

It is remarkable how many people head home over Columbus Day weekend. It seems the perfect time to switch over summer clothes for winter ones, a good time to see the family for probably the first time since move-in, and a great time to take a break before the October workload (and midterm studying!) gets to be too much.
I had an eventful weekend myself. On Friday night, my boyfriend and I went to Federal Hill for dinner and dessert. Federal Hill is known as the more expensive spot in Providence…

Hello everyone! I'm Abby St. Jean, a senior here at Providence College. I'm a history/secondary education major. This is my first blog and I'm going to write about my little trip this weekend to Shartner's Farm in Exeter, RI.
It was Sunday of Columbus Day weekend and a few of us decided to take a trip to Shartners Farm for some fall fun. It was a gorgeous day to walk around outside and pick pumpkins. We started off just walking around all the fresh produce and checking out the fresh apple and p…

Hello PC Prospective Students! My name is Christine Rousselle, and I'm currently a freshman here at PC. Along with one of my classmates Meredith, we'll be sharing our freshman year experiences here on this blog so that you can decide if PC is the place where you want to spend the next four years of your life! But before I start on my freshman year stories, I should probably let you know who I am first....
I'm from Scarborough, Maine. It's a town of about 17,000 people located right on the beach…

I could talk all day about what a great program Civ is academically, how it enriches your mind and soul and makes you look at the world in a different way. Still, one of the reasons that Civ is so controversial is the belief that it requires so much work. Yes, there is a good deal of reading, but Civ doesn't need to constrict your social life. In fact, it can actually enhance the social experience at PC. Here's a few examples of how:
1. Study Groups
An effective way of sudying for a test…

Hi Everyone!
For those of you on the east coast, I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful weather we are having today.
I wanted to let you all know about yet another great place to go in Providence, the Trinity Repertory Company. Last night, my RA Molly hosted a program for her residents, which consisted of dinner and a show at the theater. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that we should have made reservations for the restaurant we wanted to go to, so we had to settle for the food court at th…

Intramural sports are a great way to get involved at PC. They are perfect to stay involved in the sport you played in high school, to keep active, to meet new people, and make new friends. And there are also a ton of options, ranging from your typical sports like soccer, basketball, and flag football, to those you might not have seen since gym class, like dodge ball! The champion PC intramural champion T-shirts are hugely sought after, and to wear one essentially makes you a god/goddess. Serious…

Happy Sunday everyone!
With today’s rainy weather, it was definitely a lazy Sunday. Even though it wasn’t a perfect day for hanging out on the quad, my friends and I still managed to bring the fun indoors and enjoy the day. After doing our homework, we all hung out and watched John Tucker Must Die, one of my personal favorites! Too lazy to walk in the rain, we ordered Chinese food for dinner from an amazing restaurant called Shanghai. The day seemed to just fly by! It was great to just relax, c…

I finally found a work study job! I'm so happy to have found something that works with my schedule! Work study is awarded based on financial need, and it usually allows you to work about 9 hours per week. Jobs include everything from lab assistants to door monitors (at night when guests must sign into dorms), and most are fairly flexible.
I had just about given up my search when, on my 3rd trip to the bookstore, I decided to ask if they had any openings. It was my lucky day! Not only were they…
